About

A family owned pub & kitchen; filled with the tastes, sounds, and experiences of our Irish heritage.

A little history on Nana’s Irish Pub…

Our historic building was originally founded as the Middletown State Bank in 1890. It’s banking
days ended in the mid 80’s when it became McSylvie’s Restaurant. Brian & Philomena, who
are originally from Limerick City, Ireland, fell in love with the building and bought it from the
McSylvie sisters in 2003. After quite a bit of renovation The Irish Isle Restaurant & Pub was
born and opened its doors in 2004. The bank vault in the dining room still houses the original
safe and now acts as a server station. The small kitchen at the back of the building was added
on during the banking years, with a room below that is now Bridget’s Pub, a cozy den of
conversation and the occasional session of traditional music. After a few years of great success
Philomena ventured out to Oregon in 2008 and opened Nana’s Irish Pub in Newport, on the
beautiful Oregon Coast.

Although Brian enjoyed the running of the restaurant, he found limited time to play music, which
is his first love. In November, 2014 Brian retired from the restaurant and is now performing his
well loved Irish ballads, folk and country music in the Roanoke area. Follow him on Facebook…
Brian Coughlan musician.

When Brian retired, Philomena happily returned to reinvent The Irish Isle as Nana’s Irish Pub,
named after her mother Bridget Clancy, quite a character, and an amazing cook. Their daughter
Tara, here for first three years of The Irish Isle, then 8 years in Oregon at Nana’s Irish Pub, now
runs Nana’s, helping develop new recipes in the kitchen as well as sharing her knowledge of
cocktails, wine and beer. We are fortunate to have several original members of the Irish Isle
staff still here as part of the Nana’s team, united in the same goal…to make sure you enjoy
good food, fun and friends at Nana’s Irish Pub. We look forward to welcoming you to Nana’s.

Brian Coughlan – Friday – March 17, 2017 – St. Patrick’s Day!

St. Patrick’s Day is a big day for Nana’s, the busiest of the year in fact.  So, we cannot accept reservations on this day but will be happy to welcome you on a first come first serve basis.  We will be featuring a slightly limited menu but don’t worry, all the traditional favorites will be available.  Also, due to the high volume of meals we will be preparing that day we will not be able to accommodate take out orders.  We appreciate your understanding and we look forward to celebrating the day with you.

There will be multiple sets of music throughout the day so whether you are here for lunch or dinner you will have an opportunity to hear some traditional Irish music.
